Being a sustainable furniture company is a great start. But we see ourselves going further to generate a positive impact on the environment by restoring more to nature than we take.
We aim to become the first climate positive furniture company in the world.
Sounds like a great idea, right? No one else is doing it because it’s, admittedly, hard to do. But this is what we wanted even before we turned on the band saw to cut our first prototype. We designed it into our products and our entire company.
It’s going to be an ongoing process to achieve our climate positive goals. Here’s what we’re doing right now:
1. Eco-Friendly Materials
Materials are the most crucial aspect of a product's climate+ credentials. Our wood comes from sustainably managed, FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified forests - the most trusted and rigorous certification for sustainable wood products.
We select FSC certified Appleply, a premium hardwood plywood, well-known for its visual aesthetic, strength, and durability. Appleply has been made in Eugene, Oregon since the 1980s.

2. One-for-One Tree Planting
For every product our customers purchase, we plant a tree in partnership with the nonprofit One Tree Planted. Trees absorb carbon dioxide, exhale oxygen, and are vital to the healthy functioning of earth. Simply put, they are climate-change-fighting bad-asses.
3. Made in Western North Carolina
We've partnered with a family-owned factory just down the road from Asheville, NC to make our furniture. For a long time, offshoring and the search for cheap labor sent most furniture manufacturing overseas.
We're proud to be bringing it back and helping to revitalize the local economy of this beautiful part of Appalachia.
On the climate positive side, making furniture in the U.S. shrinks the carbon footprint of our products by reducing the miles that parts and materials travel to reach our factory and the miles our finished products travel to reach you.

4. Eco-Friendly Packaging
Our corrugated cardboard boxes are made of at least 40%-60% recycled materials. The dyes used to print our box logos are made with biodegradable, vegetable-based inks. You can recycle your packaging or even compost it.
Our boxes are also made less than 10 miles from our factory, which shrinks the distance they travel before your furniture goes inside them.
5. Healthy Indoor Air Quality
We've selected materials and food-grade finishes that avoid toxins, so you can breathe easy. Our Appleply avoids urea-formaldehyde adhesives and exceeds the air quality standards set by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED program.
6. Space-Efficient Shipping
We ship our flat-pack furniture in boxes nearly 80% smaller than they would be if the items were pre-assembled. The result is more fuel-efficient shipping and fewer carbon emissions.
That's because smaller packages enable more products to be transported on the same delivery truck.
A Climate Positive Future
Through our business practices we're on a journey to become a climate positive furniture company, generating environmental benefit for the planet. If you have any questions at all about our practices or products please get in touch and let us know.
